The marathon covers 42.2km over four flat, fast laps along the Cairns Esplanade and surrounding streets.
The early start begins before sunrise, timing the runners return back to Cairns Esplanade just as the sun breaks over the water. The multi-lap course brings runners back through familiar parts of the course several times. That means more opportunities to see family and friends, more crowd support and more chances to check progress against the clock.
The course is AIMS certified and is a Boston Qualifier event.

Yes. Marathon Paces: 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, 5:00. Half Marathon Paces: 1:24, 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10. 10km Paces: 40mins, 50mins, 60mins, 70mins.
Yes – you are welcome to run with a pram in any of the distances, however we ask out of courtesy to other runners to please start at the back.
Running with headphones is not recommended for safety reasons, however we do allow the use of these while participating. If you choose to wear headphones, please ensure the volume is at a reasonable level so that you are able to hear instruction from course officials. Please keep to the left when possible, to allow for faster runners to pass easily. Failure to follow instruction on course will result in automatic disqualification.
